Piecemeal Territory

Piecemeal Territory was a research project that took as its focus the EuroDelta, the territory comprising the combined river deltas of the Rhine, Maas, and Schelde — one of the most densely inhabited zones in Europe. Critical to the project was the identification of ‘EuroPockets’, parcels of land that have been islanded by the entanglement of infrastructure, the hydrosphere, and competing jurisdictions. The project advanced the argument that, supported by an EU-wide scheme, the EuroPocket contains within it the potential for counter-territories, or freegrounds — means by which the sprawl and waste of the EuroDelta might begin to be resisted.
