Follies, mounts, and chateaux

This animation, commissioned for The Architecture of Staged Realities, showed four historic castles — Schloss Neuschwanstein, the Château de Chenonceau, the Château de Chambord, and Mont-St-Michel — as well as four of The Walt Disney Company's castles that each anchor Disney's parks and resorts in Anaheim, California, Orlando, Florida, Paris, and Tokyo. The geometry of the castles was derived from data from Google's 3D maps, which are themselves based on LIDAR scanning and photography. The data were processed, lit, and animated using Blender, an open-source 3D animation program.
